Building in Public: Why Transparency Is Non-Negotiable for Us
The disability and injured worker communities we serve have been let down repeatedly by institutions that made promises, changed them, and explained nothing. Insurance companies that deny claims without clear reasoning. Government systems that lose paperwork and blame the applicant. Healthcare systems where decisions happen in rooms the patient never enters.
We want to be the opposite of that. Building in public — sharing our reasoning, our failures, our technical decisions — is part of how we demonstrate that 3mpwrApp is accountable to its users.
This is not just about publishing a roadmap. It means being honest when something takes longer than expected. Explaining why we made a technical decision that seems counterintuitive. Publishing dev diaries that document the messy reality of building complex software for real people.
The Principles
- The community we serve has been let down by opaque institutions too many times
- We publish our development process, design decisions, and setbacks openly
- Open source code means our security and privacy claims can be independently verified
- Honest about limitations — we never oversell features or hide known issues
- Community feedback shapes the roadmap directly — not through a “feedback portal”
In Action
- Dev Diary posts like this one document our actual decision-making, not just polished outcomes
- Known limitations are documented in the user guide alongside what features can do
- Roadmap updates shared with the community before work begins, not after
Why It Matters
- Transparency is the opposite of how most institutions treat disabled people — we want to be the opposite
- An app that can be independently verified is more trustworthy than one that asks you to trust its marketing
- Building in public creates accountability that internal processes often cannot
