What 3mpwr Means: The Philosophy Behind Our Name

Names are statements of intent. When we named this platform, the inspiration came from the community—I’ve seen and heard firsthand how this complex system affects injured workers and persons with disabilities.

But 3mpwrApp came from me (Lissa). I’m into astrology and numerology, and the number 3 has always resonated with me. When I was thinking about what kind of empowerment we were building toward, it hit me: Not self-help empowerment. Not the kind that says “you have the power within you” and leaves you to navigate a hostile insurance system alone.

Collective, structural empowerment.

The “3” in “3mpwr” maps onto three pillars: tools for the individual, tools for community connection, and tools for systemic change. Everything in the app fits one of those three categories. The overlap between them is where the real power is.

The Three Pillars

1. Individual Empowerment

Tools that address your immediate personal needs:

  • Evidence Locker - Store medical records, reports, and appeal documents
  • Letter Generator - Create professional appeal letters in minutes
  • Symptom Tracker - Document your condition over time
  • Benefits Navigator - Understand what you’re entitled to

Why it matters: You shouldn’t need a lawyer to understand your rights or organize your case.

2. Community Empowerment

Tools that create social infrastructure and end isolation:

  • Forums - Connect with others fighting similar battles
  • Peer Support - Learn from people who’ve been there
  • Virtual Meetups - Build relationships beyond the internet
  • Mutual Aid - Share resources, strategies, and wins

Why it matters: The system is designed to isolate you. Community makes isolation survivable—and eventually, defeatable.

3. Systemic Empowerment

Tools that connect your experience to collective political action:

  • Campaign Coordination - Join organized efforts to change policies
  • Advocacy Resources - Evidence-based arguments for policy change
  • Policy Explainer - Understand how systems work (and how to change them)
  • Pattern Detection - Expose systemic barriers using collective data

Why it matters: Individual wins are important. But until we change the systems, millions will keep fighting the same battles.

In Action: How the Three Pillars Work Together

Example: Fibromyalgia WSIB Denials

  1. Individual: You use the Evidence Locker to organize your medical reports, then the Letter Generator to write a professional appeal.

  2. Community: You connect with 156 other workers who were denied for fibromyalgia and learn what medical evidence actually wins at WSIAT.

  3. Systemic: Those 156 denials reveal a pattern: WSIB is denying fibromyalgia claims for “insufficient objective evidence” even though WSIAT accepts RFC forms in 92% of appeals. A campaign auto-launches: “WSIB Must Accept RFC Forms for Fibromyalgia.” 62 workers join, submit a joint complaint, media covers it, and WSIB updates their guidelines.

Result: You win your individual appeal (Individual). 155 other workers benefit from shared strategies (Community). And the policy changes so fewer workers get denied in the first place (Systemic).

Why the Three Pillars Matter

Why the app has features that seem very different from each other: They serve three distinct pillars. Evidence Locker feels like a productivity tool. Forums feel like social media. Campaign Coordination feels like activism. That’s intentional—because empowerment isn’t one-dimensional.

Why the name came from personal reflection: Numerology taught me that 3 represents creativity, communication, and growth. Astrology showed me that balance comes from multiple forces working together. The “3mpwr” name embodies both: three pillars creating balanced, sustainable empowerment.

Why community ownership still matters: The inspiration—the “why”—came from you. Every feature, every design choice, every priority was shaped by listening to injured workers and persons with disabilities. The name might have come from me, but the platform belongs to all of us.

Why we never mistake individual coping for justice: The three pillars ensure that personal tools (Individual) don’t become a substitute for changing the systems (Systemic). You deserve immediate support AND long-term justice. Not one or the other.

The Philosophy in Practice

Every feature in 3mpwrApp maps to one (or more) of these pillars:

Feature Individual Community Systemic
Evidence Locker ✅ Primary ✅ (sharing wins) ✅ (data for campaigns)
Forums   ✅ Primary ✅ (organizing space)
Campaign Coordination   ✅ (collective action) ✅ Primary
Letter Generator ✅ Primary ✅ (templates from community)
Pattern Detection ✅ (case insights) ✅ (shared patterns) ✅ Primary
Symptom Tracker ✅ Primary   ✅ (aggregate health data)

The overlap is the magic. When Individual + Community + Systemic work together, you get compounding effects. Your personal struggle becomes community knowledge becomes systemic change.
